Literacy has a profound effect on a child’s lifelong success, enhancing cognitive development and tapping into knowledge and creativity. Literacy serves as the foundation for building lifelong learners and unlocking their unlimited potential.
The mission of KPMG Family for Literacy (KFFL), a fund of the KPMG U.S. Foundation, is to eradicate childhood illiteracy by putting new books and educational resources into the hands of children in need and developing the next generation of young leaders through reading. KPMG volunteers work with KFFL in its collaboration with the award winning nonprofit social enterprise, First Book. KFFL has provided nearly 6 million new books to children in low-income communities since its inception in 2008.
With support from the KPMG U.S. Foundation, KFFL has harnessed the energy and enthusiasm of the KPMG extended family in each community where we live and work. This program, which started over a decade ago, includes not only partners and employees, but also welcomes participation from KPMG spouses, children, interns, retirees and alumni. Additionally, KPMG Literacy Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, Laurie Hernandez, and KPMG Brand Ambassadors and professional golfers, Phil Mickelson, Stacy Lewis, Mariah Stackhouse and Maverick McNealy, support our work with KFFL and reinforce our shared values around literacy and lifelong learning. Our dedicated volunteer base make a lasting impact in the lives of students, getting new books into the hands of children in need and helping educators and schools reach them more effectively.
