Rick Wallace describes the importance of Change Management and how it affects Healthcare clients from the beginning to end.
Eric: Hi! My name is Eric Bowie, I work for KPMG in workday health care practice, we are doing a pod caste series, to show how our expertise helps to drive the excellence and optimize our clients to a high level.
Eric: And today we are having Wallace, Mr. Rick Wallace and he is head of our change management and there is a lot of different areas in a workday but of course, we are going to talk about and want to make sure that, you know we create, understand and what you do on a day-to-day and how your expertise brings great values in team. Thanks for having me.
Rick: Thanks for having me here.
Eric: Alright! It’s great to have you man. So what you do in a day which involve (not Clear)….what you do.
Rick: So, come from a change management perspective of work where the past before is on image of transformation and organizational change is making sure that the individual within the organization understand the change, that they adapt to the change, that they change the behavior so much in that they are ready to take on the transformation and implementation of the system and they understand what they need to do in the future.
Eric: Alright, so I mean…what is in the market look like change management like is that what is what is the apple type from the client side for change management.
Rick: Hmm, so historically change management has been one of those things that the organization recognizing what they needed. So they kind of look at that you know so we can do that for …. hmm over the years now organizations are realizing that change management is critical to the success of a program. Hmm.. Historically if you look at a lot of obstacles … there is about 70% of the organization they don’t have effective change management that the industry is….so it’s a huge number.
Eric: So what?
Rick: And so, it’s kind of a …. of to success however transformation and implementation
Eric: So, over to you a point, you said years ago there was an huge (not clear) but the complexity of the systems was also checked this workday the system of ( not clear) clients are complex. You know some more challenges know…and then everything is great. I don’t want to buy this, I don’t want to do this….but this is different right.
Eric: So, and so, your legacy systems you know like we talk about in episodes….say the legacy system where you can probably make lot of changes in 10 to 15 years. Now, the technology is actually changing in every six months not drastically but you have do Ahm, updates where different things are happening. So how is the effect of sustained billing of what you are doing?
Rick: And so, if you look at the legacy system most people always just change. You know, here is such a change there is such a change (not clear)
Eric: (Not clear)
Rick: ….there is no difference about the clients. So even if a legacy system is slower on fusing or more challenging. A lot of time resources have created a … they have created…..to gift box them. So we come with a new workday system you know. They are looking at it as a change. You know even we can show and prove that this is better, efficient and more easier but still going to be ….so what we have to work through is some of those barriers and what are the things we do is, we don’t do force change on to you know….we can’t ….we make sure that the change is better to the system from day 1.
Eric: From day 1?
Rick: From day 1. So we start of making sure that the employees understand the information, they understand the…..they understand the cause for change basically to say why are we making this change, what do we need to do different, what happens when we don’t change. We take the employee through this whole journey. So we take them to the change slowly and what’s going to be impact to them and how this is going to be the impact what is going to change in my day-to-day work my day-to-day activity.
Rick: And so hopefully, by the time they get to go-live that they don’t understand the reason, what is going to change, how it’s going to change, what they need to do to be successful. And we better them; we hope them with all the clues for them to be successful from day 1.
