Background

Rod is KPMG’s Nations Tax Leader for Power and Utilities and is located in the Houston office. He has more than 30 years of experience working with energy companies with various tax and industrial issues. 

Professional and industry experience

Rod has extensive knowledge in the analysis of tax issues associated with investor owned utilities and independent power entities.  Some of the issues he has assisted clients with include FAS 109 (including industry specific FAS 109 issues), FIN 48,restructuring of power purchase agreements, contribution in aid of construction issues, fuel contract restructuring, entity formation, partnership planning including special allocations and carried interests, mergers and acquisitions and international expansion. 

  • Servers as the National Tax Leader for KPMG’s Power and Utility practice and has been a presenter at various Tax Share Forum’s, international and external training events (including tax aspects of the rate making process) and Tax Watch Webcasts.
  • Served various clients with projects related to issues associated with accounting for income taxes including various aspects of ASC 740 and ASC 740 (FIN 48). Rod has been an internal and external presenter for accounting for income tax issues. 
  • Served in various sectors for the energy industry (regulated and unregulated) including generation, production, transmission, distribution, retail supply, renewable and natural gas pipelines.
