Buck Buchanan joined KPMG in January 2015, after 17 years practicing as a litigator and now serves as Director, Tax Controversy Services in the Costal/Mid South region. Buck represented individuals, partnerships, and corporations in all major areas of tax controversy. He successfully litigated federal and state tax cases and handled numerous matters before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Buck has litigated tax cases in the U.S. district courts, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and appellate courts. In addition, Buck has had great success representing clients before the Administrative Appeals Division of the IRS.

Buck focuses on tax controversy and brings his knowledge and years of experience to advising clients from the initial examination through resolution. He works with a broad range of the firm’s clients from audit readiness, voluntary disclosures, pre-filing assistance through examination, appeals, and the alternate dispute resolution processes. 

Buck advises clients on how to anticipate and resolve their federal tax disputes and how to navigate complex IRS practice and procedure issues. He represents clients in the traditional IRS examinations and appeals environment as well as within the various alternative dispute resolution processes. With his many years of tax controversy and litigation experience, Buck’s work spans a broad range of tax issues and he represents clients from many industries.

He holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Maryland School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts from James Madison University.
