Sam Chen is a Managing Director in the Financial Institutions and Products group of KPMG’s Washington National Tax practice. Prior to joining KPMG, Sam was a tax attorney at a New York law firm.
Sam specializes in the taxation of financial institutions and products. He has extensive experience with leasing, including with equipment leasing, aircraft leasing and real estate leasing transactions. Sam has advised clients on a variety of leasing related issues including issues involving true lease and tax ownership, section 467, and engaging in an active leasing trade or business. Sam is also experienced with issues involving the taxation of debt, derivatives, and hedging transactions and has advised a variety of multinational clients, including financial institution clients, in that regard.
Sam has a JD degree the from Cornell Law School and a BS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
