Professional and industry experience
Ben is the Director of KPMG’s Trade Compliance Center, located in the firm’s Salt Lake City, UT office. He has over 10 years of experience managing and assisting companies with international trade matters.
Ben has been responsible for leading compliance functions at both public and private companies, along with leading consulting and managed service operations in providing trade compliance support across a variety of industries. He has experience in both U.S. export and import regulations, classification, licensing and agreements, FTA management, auditing, training, and compliance program development.
Other experiences include:
- Guiding KPMG’s Trade Compliance Center in supporting GTM based managed service engagements.
- Supported companies in the sporting goods, outdoor products, firearms and ammunition, commercial aerospace, defense, and consumer goods industries to develop and implement comprehensive trade compliance programs.
- Served as a member of the U.S. Department of State’s Defense Trade Advisory Group (DTAG) between 2016 and 2018; in coordination with U.S. private sector defense exporters and defense trade specialists on issues involving U.S. laws, policies, and regulations for exports of defense articles, services, and related technical data.
- Has taken a leading role in identifying and aligning client’s needs with Global Trade Management (GTM) solutions and augmented services. Allowing client’s to weigh the benefits of various technologies and applications, selecting the best solution to meet the client’s needs, develop the processes and procedures necessary to fully realize the benefits, and supported the implementation of solutions to benefit and increase overall compliance operations.
- Assisted corporate development teams in supporting merger, acquisition and divestiture activities. Lead compliance focused audit teams to ensure acquisitions did not present any undue risk associated with international trade matters; and supported post acquisition activities such as: license & agreement migration, voluntary disclosures, employee training, and policy development.
