Julia A. Flanagan
Principal, State & Local Tax
Julia is a principal in KPMG’s New York State and Local Tax practice. She provides multistate tax services to clients in the Firm’s Financial Services and Alternative Investment Fund practices. During the past 16+ years in the state and local area, Julia has dealt with diverse issues involving sales and use tax, abandoned and unclaimed property, audit controversy and defense, and voluntary disclosures. Using her broad-based knowledge, Julia helped build a large scale compliance practice for private equity clients.
Julia’s compliance experience includes a focus on partnership income allocations and apportionment, withholding issues and developing the technology to enhance efficiency for her clients and their investors in these highly complex areas. Julia’s consulting experience includes audit defense in various states on a variety of issues including those surrounding apportionment and allocation and sales of partnership interests. Julia also has years of experience dealing with the state taxing authorities on notice issues that result from routine compliance.
Her compliance clients have included some of the world’s largest private equity fund of funds, including many funds with thousands of high-profile investors. She has also led compliance engagements for management companies with a particular focus on New York State and New York City taxes.
Julia is currently leading KPMG’s State and Local Alternatives Investment/Financial Services practice in the area of developing State and Local partnership technology. This technology is a part of KPMG’s partnership solutions and will provide a “one stop shop” for the Firm’s Alternatives and Financial services clients.
