Industries

Helping clients meet their business challenges begins with an in-depth understanding of the industries in which they work. That’s why KPMG LLP established its industry-driven structure. In fact, KPMG LLP was the first of the Big Four firms to organize itself along the same industry lines as clients.

Maricarmen is a Partner in KPMG’s Financial Risk Management for Operational Risk and Fintech practices. She has over 16 years of experience in Financial Services, Risk management and Corporate Treasury. Maricarmen provides clients with a broad perspective on addressing risk management issues and has developed the operational risk practice in KPMG Mexico since 2001 supporting multiple financial institutions in the design and implementation of the operational risk frameworks (banks, stockbrokers or non-banking financial institutions)

Maricarmen did join KPMG on February 2001 with 8 years of prior experience in a reinsurance company.  She worked for Swiss Re in the finance area and during those years, reported the financial figures to the holding in New York.

She has also supported Financial Institutions to design and implement operational risk frameworks based on ERM, Basel II and best practices for the industry and get regulatory authorizations. Maricarmen has executed regulatory attest reviews on Derivatives & Risk Management compliance for the financial regulated sector.

Maricarmen has been engaged in multiple comprehensive financial industry projects. She has assisted clients and led project teams related to the redesign of banking business processes (for example, Derivatives, Credit, FX and Bond Markets) and also supported a global corporate enterprise to design its derivatives processes including definitions of the functional requirements of buy/sell in a derivatives system.

Other projects that she has led involved the design of institution’s supply chain, the definition of its process inventory, the development of a quantitative and qualitative model to define critical processes and the establishment of an operational risk and control framework.

In the insurance arena, she participated with several companies to define and implement its comprehensive risk management models. Among the companies are Zurich, Patria, ACE, Chubb, HDI and Metlife.

On the other hand, as being responsible of the FINTECH practice in Mexico, she has been actively developing the strategy and strengthening relationships with KPMG FINTECH specialists around the globe to offer solutions in the banking, insurance and government sectors given that recent studies demonstrate that Mexico and LATAM are markets with a large number of opportunities on this regard.
