Amol is a Managing Director in KPMG’s Accounting Methods and Credit Services (“AMCS”) group and leads the AMCS Chicago Business Unit Credits practice, which covers the Illinois and Wisconsin regions. Amol is also a KPMG national leader (Midwest Region) in the Research Credit Services practice for the Financial Services industry. Amol also serves as a national co-leader for the AMCS Technology group which defines, designs, and develops KPMG proprietary platforms to quantify and qualify various federal tax planning tools, including, but not limited to, R&D tax credits, employee retention credits, meals & entertainment deductions, and lobbying expense deductions.

Professional and industry experience

Amol has nearly 20 years of experience in overseeing, managing, and conducting Research Credit engagements and defending Research Credit claims against Federal and State Taxing Authorities. Amol’s engagement experience includes:

  • Identification and documentation of qualified research activities/expenses for Research Credits
  • Development and use of qualitative deliverables to document Research Credits, including proprietary quantitative and qualitative technology, project memorandums and documentation matrices
  • IRS and state taxing authority examination/audit defense of Research Credits (including use of Pre-Filing Agreements)
  • Analysis of eligibility of internal-use software activities for Research Credits
  • Development of technology, tools, materials, deliverables, and training programs for the education and management of Research Credits with a focus on software development activities

Amol has presented on Research Credit opportunities at many Tax and Accounting seminars and start-up incubators/organizations throughout his career. Amol also has experience with other tax planning services, such as IRC §174/59(e), I.T. Cost Review (Rev. Proc. 2000-50), lobbying expense deduction, meals and entertainment, and employee retention credits engagements.

Prior to entering the tax industry, Amol was a software engineer with Motorola, Inc. where he worked within the company’s Multimedia Systems Division developing and testing various systems applications and hardware devices. Amol’s unique software engineering expertise has correlated directly to his role as a KPMG national leader in software-based R&D tax credit claims.
