What can I do for you?
I help Healthcare clients identify and implement solutions to optimize IT costs, increase IT operational efficiencies, and enhance IT process governance and controls. I have over six years of experience providing Healthcare IT consulting services to both health plans and healthcare providers, as well as integrated delivery networks.
I assist clients with defining their target IT operating model and supporting the required transformation activities to achieve the future state design. I have experience supporting all phases of the system selection process including RFP development, market landscape analysis, industry benchmark analysis, and vendor contracting. I particularly focus on IT cost analysis, leveraging my background in IT and accounting to develop scenario based cost models to provide a more accurate view of IT solution implementation and run costs.
Engagement experience
IT Cost Optimization
A Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) needed to reduce their overall IT budget in order to submit a competitive Medicare jurisdiction contract proposal. We assessed the client’s actual spending against industry benchmarks within key IT functional areas of Data Center, End-User Computing, IT Service Desk, Data Network, Voice Network, Application Development, Application Support, IT Management, and IT Finance & Administration.
Based on our assessment, we identified the areas which offered the best potential for savings and assisted the client with developing an RFP to source those services. I conducted information gathering workshops to define business requirements, performed market scans to develop a short-list of potential service providers, and assembled the RFP pricing templates. Additionally, I was responsible for conducting a cost analysis of all vendor proposals. The cost optimization initiative resulted in a 20% reduction of the client’s $50 million IT operating budget.
System Selection & IT Process Transformation
An Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) was looking to implement a standardized, medical grade voice and data network across their four major hospitals, a health plan, corporate office, and over 40 outpatient facilities. I assisted with developing the target state model and implementation roadmap.
I assisted with creating an RFP for the target state solution, evaluating vendor responses, and facilitated the negotiation of the $10 million contract with the selected vendor. I was responsible for creating a total cost of ownership model to determine the financial impact (CapEx and OpEx), including the transition from an “on-premise” to an “as a service” Voice over IP (VoIP) solution. I served as the project manager for the implementation of the VoIP solution and provided weekly progress reports to executive leadership.
IT Governance & Controls
I served as lead staff on external IT audit engagements for three of the four largest healthcare providers in the State of Maryland. I have experience conducting IT audits for a variety of complex EMR and Revenue Cycle Management systems including Epic, Cerner Millennium, GE Centricity, Siemens Invision, McKesson STAR, Meditech, Medipac, and HCS.
I have developed and executed specialized IT audit programs covering:
