Eric Gorman is a Principal at KPMG. He is the Advisory lead for Legal Operations Transformation Services (LOTS) in the United States. Eric is an attorney with over 25 years of experience advising and guiding clients through difficult, complex challenges. Strong legal and governance functions are often part of the solution to these challenges, and Eric specializes in helping clients build both. Prior to joining KPMG, Eric was a partner at a global law firm, where he practiced law for 20 years, specializing in complex litigation, investigations, and government enforcement / white collar crime matters. This experience informs Eric’s advice to legal teams as he helps them modernize and transform. 

Professional and industry experience

The mission of Legal Operations Transformation Services is simple: modernize legal functions to deliver law at the speed of business. Legal departments and law firms operate at the complex, high-stakes intersection of laws and regulations, risk assessment and risk management, ethics, compliance, and business  and the pressures are ever increasing. Businesses demand legal services that are better, faster, and cheaper. To meet that need, legal teams must modernize and transform. 

Eric advises legal teams on a range of transformation initiatives, including evaluating and optimizing legal processes, leveraging legal technology, and developing and implementing transformative target operating models. Eric’s legal operations transformation clients include the legal teams of Fortune 50 companies, AmLaw 10 law firms, and a range of other businesses. The legal departments he advises range in size from start-ups with just a few lawyers, to legal departments with hundreds of lawyers around the globe. Eric has advised legal departments on a wide array of transformation initiatives, including, among others: 

  • Contracting practices, including process and technology improvements
  • Legal technology assessments and strategy
  • Process assessments and process re-engineering to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and controls
  • Legal department interactions with other business functions and stakeholders
