Senior Manager, Passthroughs Group, Washington National Tax, KPMG LLP

Deanna Harris is a senior manager in KPMG LLP’s (KPMG) Washington National Tax Passthroughs Group. She advises KPMG partners, employees, and clients on partnership, S corporation, and general corporate tax matters.

Deanna serves as a cross-functional adviser to firm personnel and clients regarding issues arising in both corporate and partnership transactions. In that capacity, she frequently advises many of the firm’s largest clients in tax planning for partnership transactions including partnership income and liability allocations, section 704(c) planning, debt restructurings, and “disguised sale” transactions.

Prior to joining KPMG, Deanna was an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel, Passthroughs and Special Industries Division. While with Chief Counsel, she worked extensively on both public and private guidance regarding the taxation of partnerships, S corporations, and disregarded entities. She also served as member of the IRS’s partnership and real estate industry specialization programs.

Deanna is responsible for instructing firm-sponsored seminars in the taxation of corporations, taxation of partnerships, the taxation of S corporations, and advanced topics in mergers and acquisitions. She is also a frequent author on those topics.

Deanna has an LLM degree, with distinction, from the Georgetwon Univeristy Law Center, and a JD degree, magna cum laude, from Indiana University. She earned her BS degree from Purdue University.

About KPMG’s Passthroughs Group

The Passthroughs Group is responsible for providing insight to KPMG professionals and clients regarding the federal taxation of partnerships, real estate investment trusts, and S corporations across all major industries.  In addition, the Passthroughs Group advises in specialty areas such as like-kind exchanges, oil and gas, leasing, and excise taxes. Client services include transaction structuring, the issuance of opinions, and requesting private letter rulings.
