Matt is a principal in KPMG’s Economic and Valuation Services practice. Based in Minneapolis, Matt leads the national Business Modeling Services (BMS) team, which utilizes customized financial models to support leaders across their most significant decisions including M&A, capital market readiness such as IPOs and SPACs, and internal investments and transformations.

A skilled professional with more than 20 years of experience, Matt specialized in leading large, complex analyses supporting capital allocation decisions related to transactions, restructurings, and strategic planning. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies in such industries as life sciences, consumer goods & retail, and industrial products.

Before joining KPMG, Matt led the Minneapolis Valuation and Business Modeling Services team at EY, where he served as a principal within its strategy and transactions practice. Prior to his tenure at EY, he worked at Hewitt Associates (now a part of Aon) and William Blair & Company.

Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Michigan and is an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation.

His representative experience includes:

  • Primary M&A partner for a large, global life science company, supporting all transaction-related activity including valuation, commercial strategy, financial and tax diligence, modeling, and integration
  • Worked with client during onset of COVID-19 by identifying cost cutting opportunities, assessing capital needs for short-term demands, and prioritizing strategy to fund long-term growth
  • Led global team in US, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, and India to execute valuation and modeling analysis involving over 250 entities associated with a $50B transaction to support client’s tax reporting requirements
  • Improved capital allocation investment performance for a $40B company by increasing forecast accuracy, improving scenario modeling capabilities, and prioritizing strategic investments
  • Supported client’s strategic initiatives by assessing a potential $10M minority equity investment providing insights on value drivers and forecasting economic returns
  • Advised client on the financial considerations for buyout of a joint venture and assisted in negotiating deal terms with third party joint venture partner for a $150M transaction
