John Modzelewski has 15 years of experience providing tax advice to public and private entities with significant experience in serving clients in the following industries: private equity, power and utilities, pharmaceuticals, technology, media and entertainment, and diversified industrials.

John currently serves as a leader at KPMG in the development and deployment of numerical models that calculate the effect of key U.S. tax reform domestic and international provisions and provide for scenario planning to assess approaches to address the effects of new U.S. tax reform provisions. John collaborates with federal tax compliance engagement teams using KPMG-internal and third-party tax compliance tools to assess and improve analytics and data flow with the goal of completing tax returns that are consistent with new tax rules and KPMG positions on interpreting those new rules.

John advises U.S. and non-U.S. corporations on the U.S. tax consequences of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, internal restructurings, divestitures, distributions and redemptions, debt and stock offerings, and recapitalizations. He has written numerous tax opinions, tax return and regulatory disclosures, and audit work paper support documents in connection with corporate tax issues. He has also provided tax due diligence services to public and private acquirers and sellers in connection with several transactions. Additionally, John has provided tax advice to corporate clients in and emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

John has presented current tax topics to professional associations across the United States. He earned a BS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a JD Degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
