Heidi Newton

Heidi is a senior manager in KPMG LLP’s (KPMG) Washington National Tax Financial Institutions & Products practice with more than nine years of state and local tax experience from both the public and private sectors. Heidi has assisted KPMG’s U.S. and multinational clients on a wide range of complex state and local income tax matters.

Heidi has experience leading and coordinating large multi-state engagements for U.S. and multinational clients doing business as single entities or large consolidated groups. Her current and past clients operate in many different industries, but largely in the financial services and alternative investment industries. Heidi has provided a wide range of services to her clients including: preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns; ASC 740 analysis and calculations; advising clients on issues relating to state income taxes, sales/use tax collection responsibilities, tax effects of mergers and acquisitions and state apportionment sourcing; evaluating potential income, franchise and sales/use tax exposure through review of client’s in-state activities and assisting clients in becoming compliant through multi-state voluntary disclosure agreements with taxing authorities; preparing requests for rulings and advisory opinions regarding the applicability of state statutes and regulations; and pursuing available procedural remedies after state tax assessments have been received and resolving issues arising from state tax examinations.

Heidi holds a BS from the University of Utah and MBA from Westminster College.
