Matt Pellows is a Tax Partner in KPMG’s Houston State and Local Tax practice. He has more than 22 years of experience in state tax planning, dispute resolution, refunds, and transaction analysis for public and privately held clients.
Matt is responsible for a broad range of domestic, U.S. and multi-national clients doing business in the United States with extensive experience addressing their complex state tax matters. Matt’s current and past clients include leaders in the Retail, oil and gas, communications, utility, and information technology industries.
Matt has led many engagements focused on transactions tax restructuring, refunds, audit defense, due diligence, and research and consultation. For example:
- Designed and delivered multiple supply chains restructuring projects involving centralized procurements companies. These engagements touched all aspects of asset management from requisition through fixed assets and expenses as well as having stakeholders throughout the organizations. These engagements have included direct re-sales, leasing, installment sales, management of incentives, vehicle / fleet planning and vendor discounts
- Multi-state refunds projects covering sales tax, state income tax, severance tax, and property tax. These projects have been across a broad array of industries including: oil and gas, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy production and T&D, healthcare, high tech, and construction
- Extensive experience delivering research ad consultation engagements assisting clients to determine the applicable tax treatment to complex issues ranging from new product introduction, construction projects, revenue apportionment, nexus, ad M&A transactions
