Managing Director, Tax Exempt Organizations


Preston Quesenberry, a Washington National Tax Managing Director in KPMG LLP (KPMG)'s Exempt Organizations group, has more than 12 years of experience in the nonprofit and tax-exempt space, providing advice on a wide variety of legal, tax, and strategic issues in the private sector and serving in multiple capacities at the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to joining KPMG, Preston served as a special counsel in the Tax Exempt and Government Entities division of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. During his tenure at the IRS, Preston drafted numerous Treasury regulations and other published guidance items, including regulations and guidance regarding charitable hospitals (section 501(r)), accountable care organizations, supporting organizations, program-related investments, and other exempt organization issues.

Preston currently provides tax advice to hospitals, universities, other public charities, private foundations, social welfare organizations, trade associations, and government entities on a wide variety of issues including unrelated business income tax, requirements for tax-exemption, charitable contributions, domestic and international grantmaking, joint ventures, lobbying and political activities, and executive compensation.
