David is a senior audit partner leading KPMG’s U.S. Banking & Capital Markets tax, advisory and audit practices as the National Sector Leader.

Current roles and responsibilities

David is a senior audit partner leading KPMG’s U.S. Banking & Capital Markets tax, advisory and audit practices as the National Sector Leader. Based in New York, he also currently serves as:

  • Lead Partner for a top Banking and Capital Markets account where he is responsible for the delivery of all services in the Americas, including the signing partner for the significant US audits
  • Lead U.S. partner liaison for KPMG’s Global Delivery Center where he serves as a member of the GDC board of directors and oversees the 1,000 person operations in Bangalore and Kochi
  • SEC reviewing partner, a role limited to the firm’s most senior, technical partners

David is a frequent public speaker and leads many of the firm’s industry and technical trainings for our senior financial services professionals. David is also helping to lead the firm’s innovation efforts related to Data & Analytics and Cognitive Technologies in our audit practice and firm.

Background, professional and industry experience

From 2012 to 2017, David served in a variety of Banking & Capital Markets industry leadership roles including helping establish and implement KPMG’s strategic approach to the industry, as well as the Professional Practice Industry Leader. From 2009 to July 2012, David co-led the financial services group within KPMG‘s Department of Professional Practice (National Office) and advised our global financial services clients on industry, regulatory, and emerging financial reporting initiatives.

In this role, David led teams within the National Office tracking and interpreting developments around fair value measurements and financial asset transfers (securitization). He interacted with the FASB, IASB, Bank Regulators (e.g., OCC and Federal Reserve) and SEC. He was also active providing transaction advice to KPMG clients and professionals in the following additional areas: consolidations, financial instruments and leasing.

From 2001-2008, David served as the partner-in-charge of the day-to-day execution of the integrated audit of a top Banking and Capital Markets account. In this role, he led the evaluation and resolution of complex technical issues and transactions.

As a senior partner, David’s experiences have accrued over a long period of time and focused on a wide-variety of issues, including:

  • Communications: significant experience working with and communicating to senior management, boards and audit committees
  • Product and Business: well versed in products (financial instruments, structured and leveraged finance, commercial & residential mortgages, investments, and derivatives) and processes (M&A, lending, securitizations, trading, taxation, hedging, leasing, and finance).
  • Technical: accounting, financial reporting, industry, due diligence, internal controls, corporate governance, and regulatory matters

BS in Business Administration from Washington & Lee

CPA in New York
