  • Providing unclaimed property (UP) and tax consulting services to numerous multi-billion dollar companies, specializing in the consumer products, retail, manufacturing, and financial services industries, including involvement in companies' six-sigma projects;
  • Identifying, analyzing, and quantifying UP liability for non-compliant corporations through the review, sampling, testing, and reconciling of general ledger accounts; 
  • Mitigating non-compliant companies' UP exposure under audit or through VDAs through evaluation, application of exemptions, and extensive negotiation with state UP administrators and third party auditors, achieving large scale percentage reductions in a company's liability;
  • Reviewing companies' accounting processes to create policies and procedures for the companies' UP compliance functions, as well as developing materials and conducting training sessions to educate companies' employees on the proper administration of the compliance functions;
  • Conducting extensive diagnostic reviews to identify gaps in companies' UP compliance processes, and well as consult on client-specific UP issues; 
  • Corroborating with internal and external legal counsel to present federal preemption positions to state authorities for the exclusion of potential UP from state reporting related to the federal regulation of ERISA plans and the transportation and financial services industries;
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to clients in sales and use tax and UP consulting matters;
  • Testing and reviewing companies' collected and accrued sales and use tax data for the preparation of sales and use tax refund claims, some in excess of one million dollars; and
  • Researching and preparing memorandums, taxability matrices, and opinion letters on various state tax issues, including sales and use tax issues related to relocating businesses and expanding goods and service offerings.
