Shel Shi is a Manager in KPMG’s Accounting Methods and Credits Services (AMCS) Practice. Shel has over 6 years of experience providing federal credits and incentives consulting services. Shel supports the federal credits and incentives service offerings covering a range of monetizable credit programs, including the Investment Tax Credit, Production Tax Credit, Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, New Market Tax Credit and Federal Opportunity Zone programs.

Professional and industry experience

Prior to joining KPMG, Shel was a Financial Services Manager with Ernst & Young. She co-led the firm’s national Opportunity Zone Investment service offering, providing complicated structuring advice for clients in the real estate, manufacturing, automotive, energy and financial services industries. She assisted with renewable energy transaction structuring, financial modeling and the review of tax equity structures including Partnership Flip, Sale Leaseback and Inverted Lease.

  • Shel has advised multiple Fortune 500 clients in the development of a renewable energy strategy through identifying renewable opportunities, developing a business case, road map and implementation plan.
  • Shel has also developed financial models and databases to forecast future benefit streams and potential greenhouse gas emission reduction from renewable energy purchases for her clients.
  • Shel has built, reviewed, and updated tax equity financial models, as well as hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) financial models for a variety of solar and onshore/offshore wind projects for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Shel has advised more than 50 private and public sector clients with complex tax issues around Qualified Opportunity Fund structuring, Qualified Opportunity Zone Business structuring and financial modeling, Opportunity Zone compliance testing as well as Qualified Opportunity Zone investment exit strategy planning.
