Erik Shumar

Erik is a Managing Director in KPMG’s Financial Services Regulatory Risk & Compliance practice with 20+ years of experience in the regulatory and compliance as well as enterprise risk management space within Banking and Capital Markets. He has developed significant depth of knowledge in the areas of risk, operational compliance, global regulatory change management, and tech-enabled risk services. Erik has substantial experience leading global teams across the three lines of defense including developing and implementing various compliance programs, risk assessments, monitoring and testing plans, and regulatory change processes. He has also provided subject matter expertise as a consultant for the financial service industry’s prudential regulators and as a professor at Columbia University. Erik is trilingual (English, Japanese, and Korean) and graduated from Columbia University with a Ph.D. in Behavioral Economics.
