Peter Uebelhart is a senior tax partner with KPMG in Switzerland and acts as global tax lead partner for several large Swiss headquartered multinational corporations. He is the head of Tax Policy and head of International Tax and closely follows and advises on the change in international taxation principles. He is also head of the Switzerland - U.S. corridor for KPMG.

Peter started his career in 1995 in the tax practice of a large international accounting firm. He joined KPMG in January 2001 and has been a partner in Switzerland since 2002. He became the head of M&A Tax Switzerland in 2002 and the head of Corporate Tax in Zurich in 2005. From 2012 to 2019, he headed the Tax & Legal practice and was a member of the executive committee for KPMG in Switzerland.

Peter has profound knowledge and experience in Swiss and foreign tax structures, outbound and domestic M&A transactions, and reorganizations as well as understanding organizations' tax strategy and risk profile. He provides tax advice to clients on international and Swiss tax matters, particularly regarding ownership and IP structures and value chain and supply chain. His current focus extends to tax governance and risk management, tax reputation, implications from BEPS and other similar developments on international tax structures as well as the taxation of the digital economy.

Peter has advised clients on numerous M&A projects across several sectors and has led multi-country engagements and teams for clients in integration and/or transformation scenarios. He has developed a targeted, centralized approach and an efficient delivery model for such projects driven by a quick identification of “true” main issues and effective mitigation measures across all relevant areas. He advises a number of large Swiss headquartered multinational companies and is familiar with the corresponding complexities that can affect transformation projects. Peter is currently involved in setting up a global center of excellence for procurement and supply chain for a U.S. group in Switzerland.

Peter holds a lic. oec. HSG in business administration (master’s in economics) from University of St. Gallen. He is also a Swiss Certified Tax Expert.
