Kees Van Meel joined the International Tax practice of KPMG Meijburg in the Netherlands in 1987 and has more than 30 years of experience. From 1991 to 1994, he was on a rotational assignment to KPMG in the Unites States in its New York office. After that, he worked in KPMG Meijburg's International Tax practice in Amsterdam from 1994 until 2003. In May 2003, he returned to New York to be part of the U.S. firm's Netherlands Tax Center of Excellence.

Kees works closely with large and medium sized multinationals and private equity funds. He currently keeps U.S. colleagues and clients abreast of relevant tax developments in the Netherlands and in the European Union. He also works closely in U.S. outbound international acquisition financing, licensing, and private equity structuring.

During his tenure with KPMG, Kees has been involved in helping clients  create tax-efficient E.U. structures for private equity funds, improve the tax aspects of foreign-to-U.S., U.S.-to-U.S., and U.S.-to-foreign acquisitions, enhance IP structuring for U.S. multinational groups, and retrofit IP and finance structures pursuant to BEPS, ATAD, and U.S. tax reform developments.

Kees is a frequent speaker on Dutch and international tax issues as well as E.U. tax developments at KPMG seminars and trainings, as well as on external events for the local International Fiscal Association (IFA) chapters and the Tax Executives Institute.

Kess is a member of the International Bar Association, IFA, and the Dutch Association of Tax Lawyers. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Netherlands Law, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, a bachelor’s degree in tax law from the University of Amsterdam, and a master’s degree in tax law also from University of Amsterdam.
