Steve Weerts
Partner, International Tax
Steve Weerts is a partner in the KPMG International Tax practice in Los Angeles. His practice focuses on the tax aspects of cross-border deals and multijurisdictional transactions. He has more than 20 years of experience in international tax planning and structuring for multinational corporations and inbound and outbound investors.
Steve has extensive experience in supply chain and intellectual property planning, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, legal entity rationalization, transfer pricing, VAT/GST planning, and capital markets transactions. Clients benefit from Steve’s experience working with companies to establish or expand their operations worldwide. Clients also seek his experience leading complex global restructuring projects.
Steve has a strong track record of managing international, multidisciplinary teams to provide clients with comprehensive global services, including tax planning and coordination of corporate, labor, intellectual property, and other work necessary to successfully execute major cross-border transactions. Steve regularly advises clients in the technology, telecommunications, medical device, and life science industries.
In addition to his work for clients, Steve has served as an adjunct professor in Loyola Law School’s Tax LLM program, where he taught a course in advanced international taxation.
Steve is is a frequent lecturer for tax and legal education providers such as Bloomberg/BNA, Tax Executives Institute, the Association of Corporate Counsel, and IBFD. He has written extensively on US and international tax issues and has been published in Thomson Reuters Practical International Tax Strategies. He has also designed and presented courses in international taxation and international trade for Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and the University of Pretoria (South Africa).
Steve is a Certified Public Accountant in California. He is member of the Tax Section of a number of professional associations, including the American Institute of Certified Pubic Accountants, the American Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, and the International Bar Association. Steve has a JD degree and an LLM degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and an BS degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University.
