The events of the past year—COVID-19, recessions, extreme weather events, social unrest, trade and geopolitical disruption, and many others—have dramatically altered the private company board agenda for 2021. The pressure on management and boards will be significant. In this edition of Privately Speaking, the KPMG Board Leadership Center identifies the nine key issues that we believe private company boards should be considering as they develop and execute on their 2021 agendas.

While some private company boards will struggle to set and deliver on their agenda for 2021, others will see this year as an opportunity to fine tune their strategy and corporate governance. But boards must also remain nimble; the disruption is not yet over. Adept crisis management capabilities and proactive resilience efforts will be required before we see a ‘new normal’ emerge.
